Adventures In Getting To The Gym

Yesterday afternoon I was pretty pumped to get to the gym but, per usual, come 4:00 or so I was not looking forward to it. I left the office telling myself I had to go even though I didn’t feel like it and so the old internal argument went. The back and forth of “I don’t wanna” versus “I don’t care if you wanna, you go!”

Driving down the toll road I still wasn’t 100% certain I was going to get off at the exit leading me to the treadmills but when all was said and done, I did. I pulled into the gym parking lot and had a pep talk with myself, getting pumped, thinking about the beach this weekend, visualizing myself in a bathing suit, thinking through the run and how it only sucks in beginning and then start to feel great.

A couple of minutes later and I was ready!

I went inside, perusing the cardio equipment, seeing if my favorite treadmill was open. I hit the locker room to change, opened my gym bag and…no sneakers.

******************************

This morning I’m at the red light just before the gym plaza and it’s about 6:05 in the morning, so it’s past sunrise and clear and bright outside. To my right is the big Oracle sign outside of, uh, the Oracle building and I see movement. I look and the first thing that pops in my head is “wow, is that a big cat or what?” Then it comes out completely behind the bush and it’s a fox!! A red fox!! Clear as day and just hangs out there, then walks a couple feet and another fox comes out behind the bush too! Then the two of them are just standing there, hanging out on the Oracle sign like some kind of Disney characters. I mean, it’s not that I’ve never seen fox before but usually they’re darting across the street or scurrying into the woods. I got a really good look at these guys and it was cool.  Or perhaps I’m just easily impressed.

For the record, I had a great run.

  1. Cool about the foxes. I’ve never seen one in the wild before.

So, just HOW did you run without sneakers, may I ask?
